Download Filter Range vs Tuning Band
The Sound Devices Astral Series receivers and transmitters incorporate SpectraBand, a technology that enables the Astral Series wireless devices to tune over a wide range of 169-1525 MHz. This 169-1525 MHz global range is divided into multiple tightly filtered segments of spectrum called ‘Filter Ranges’. Most Filter Ranges are 24 MHz wide, but some are different. The sharp attenuation at either end of a filter range significantly reduces out of band interference protecting the tuning band, resulting in excellent range and performance. For more information on SpectraBand, please see: SpectraBand Explained – Sound Devices
The Astral Series Wireless Filter Ranges depend on the Country selected for operation. This allows a user to operate the same hardware in any country worldwide without having to supplement equipment to bring consistency to your production. Please see Available Frequencies by Country – Sound Devices for further detailed information on which filter ranges are available for each country. The example below displays the available Filter Ranges in the United States.
The Astral ARX16 and ARX8 offer one Tuning Band. The user can scan the entire SpectraBand frequency range of 169-1525 MHz. The scan result can assist the user to choose the best operating range for their deployment by applying a Filter Range to the Tuning Band. The Tuning Band is the element of the receiver that digitizes the RF spectrum for processing and demodulation of audio.
The Astral ARX32 offers three Tuning Bands that can be configured in multiple ways. Please see Tech Notes: Astral ARX32 Antenna Modes. When using antenna modes such as Diversity or 3-way Diversity, each Tuning Band in the Astral ARX32 can select its own unique Filter Range. This allows up to 72 MHz of usable spectrum. In other antenna modes, such as 4Versity and HexVersity, one Tuning Band is available with one Filter Range. In these modes, multiple diversity antenna pairs can facilitate more robust antenna coverage within a single RF Zone.
Once the Tuning Band has been selected, scroll through the Filter Ranges to select a Filter Range to apply to the Tuning Band.
Note: When changing the Filter Range applied to a Tuning Band, audio is temporarily muted. It is recommended that you select an appropriate Filter Range before you start the process of selecting individual frequencies.
