Astral Guitar Box User Guide

The Sound Devices Astral Guitar Box, featuring premium Lundahl transformers, preserves the integrity of your guitar signal across extended cable runs. Designed for seamless integration with the analog audio outputs on Astral Receivers. Both the AES72-1M analog output on ARX32 and the DB25-M analog output on ARX8/16 can be adapted to balanced XLR and connected to the Astral Guitar Box. Then the Guitar Box can deliver reliable signal transmission to an onstage unbalanced ¼" TS input. In this configuration, set the Direction switch to the down (JACK OUT) position.

For added flexibility, the Astral Guitar Box also supports reverse operation—converting an unbalanced ¼" TS input to a balanced XLR output. Simply set the Direction switch to the up (JACK IN) position.

A built-in ground lift switch helps eliminate unwanted hum and grounding issues, ensuring clean, noise-free performance in any environment.

Transporting a guitar signal from an Astral receiver to the Astral Guitar Box

  1. On the Astral receiver, navigate to the Audio menu.  Select the Analog audio outputs desired and set level to “Guitar.”
  2. From the Analog outputs on the back of the Astral Receiver (Using AES72-1M to M-XLR or DB25 to M-XLR Fanouts) Connect the male XLR into the Astral Guitar Box via “IN XLR”
  3. Place the Direction switch on the Astral Guitar Box to the down position (JACK OUT) to match the signal path printed in white.
  4. Connect an unbalanced ¼" TS instrument cable from the Astral Guitar Box IN / OUT ¼" TS JACK to the guitar system.

Using the Astral Guitar Box for unbalanced ¼" TS Input to balanced XLR output conversion

  1. Connect a ¼" TS source such as a pedal board to the Astral Guitar Box IN / OUT ¼" TS JACK connector.
  2. Place the Direction switch on the Astral Guitar Box to the up position (JACK IN) to match the signal path printed in orange.
  3. Connect the “OUT XLR” to a mixing console or stage box.
